Meet Phil and Jake
We're Phil and Jake. We both started on the tools, then spent years fitting and looking after solar systems for another company before starting New Gen Renewables. Between us we've fitted more than 700.
We're a family-run team based at Merley House in Broadstone, working across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and East Dorset. When your details come in, one of us looks at your home and designs the system around how you actually use electricity, not around what's easiest to sell.
We treat every customer as if their money is our own.

We have been researching the whole solar installation for a while, having had numerous conversations with some of the national companies who seemed to be pushing very hard, we eventually found New Gen Renewables and are pleased we did. Our installation was completed last week, Phil and his team at NGR have held our hand through the entire project, the guys installing the panels, the electrician connecting us have done a great job. Communication has been great, we have now received all our warranties & insurance docs. The cost of solar is a significant amount, the nuances of the solar business can be taxing & complex, we are pleased we put our faith in Phil and his team, and yes, the price was to our liking.

Really good experience with New Gen Renewables from start to finish. Had solar panels fitted and the lads were spot on- turned up on time, worked hard, and got everything done to a high standard. Easy to deal with, no messing about, and explained everything properly without trying to oversell anything. Really happy with the install and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking at getting solar panels fitted.

I had a 3.5kw solar installation in February 2025, we are extremely satisfied with the system that was recommended by New Gen. We start with your yearly usage and your tariff, design a system around them in OpenSolar, the platform we quote on, and send you the payback figure in writing before we visit. We aim for under 7 years, with most systems between 6 and 8, and as low as 4 to 5 where a slightly bigger system makes sense. Every figure is an estimate for your home, never a promise.
Will they push me into kit I don’t need?
We’d rather talk you out of it
We treat every customer as if their money is our own. We often steer people away from brands sold as premium when a cheaper system does the same job with an equal or better warranty. There's no push for a sale on the day. We encourage you to get other quotes, and we'll do a blind like-for-like quote on an identical system so you can compare us directly.
What if something goes wrong, or you go out of business?
Warranties that don’t depend on us
Panels carry a 25-year product and 30-year performance warranty. Our workmanship is covered by an insurance-backed warranty (IWA), so it stands even if we stopped trading. Warranty work covers parts, replacement and our labour. If a fault is outside your control there's no call-out fee, and we aim to visit within 5 working days for anything that isn't an emergency.
Will it look ugly or damage my roof?
Neat, all-black and insured
Domestic panels are all-black, and the face sits no more than 15cm above the tiles with a 40cm border below the ridge, so the silhouette stays low. We keep the cable runs short and tidy. Your home is insured to £2 million while we work, and the roof and electrical work on a standard home is normally done in one day.

Deposit, DNO and scheduling
A deposit books your install date and we submit the DNO application for you. Typically 3 to 4 weeks from deposit to install.

Install, usually 3 to 4 days on site
Scaffold goes up the day before. Roof and electrical work is normally done in a single day, with your power off for a few hours, not longer.

Paperwork and handover
We handle the DNO paperwork, MCS certificate and building control, then set you up on the monitoring app so you can see what your system is generating.

Most roof types
Concrete tile, peg tile, slate, flat, trapezoidal and corrugated roofs, not thatch. All kit is IP65/IP66 rated and never fitted in the loft.
An honest “sometimes no”
We won't recommend north-facing panels, and we're upfront when heavy shade makes a roof unsuitable. A solar carport is considered where the roof isn't viable.

How much does it cost to have solar panels fitted to a house?
A common 5kW / 10-panel system with a 10kWh battery starts from £8,825 including scaffold, and the average residential order (with a hybrid inverter and battery) is around £10,000. Your exact figure depends on your roof, usage and tariff, and is confirmed at a free survey, never a hidden number.
Is it worth buying solar panels for your house?
For most Dorset homes, yes. We aim to get every customer's payback under 7 years, with most landing 6–8 years and some as low as 4–5 with sensible oversizing. It's illustrative, never guaranteed, and we'll tell you honestly if your roof or usage doesn't stack up.
How many solar panels do I need for my house?
